Honor the Stars of Liberty

Welcome to the William Henshaw Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) website!

Our chapter's service projects in the community are in the areas of historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

DAR offers a unique opportunity for women to establish their lineage as a descendant of a patriot of the American Revolution. Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot who fought in or supported the American Revolution is eligible to become a member of our chapter of the National Society.

The National Society DAR is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's organization founded in 1890 that is dedicated to promoting historic preservation, Education and Patriotism.

Valley Virginia Henshaw - Our Founder

Valley Virginia Henshaw, an early school teacher in Berkeley County, West Virginia, founded our chapter in 1899. She named the chapter after her great-grandfather, Revolutionary patriot Captain William Henshaw. The chapter has quite a history to celebrate and so many stories to tell!
